The desk marked six was retained by the maker James A Degges, cabinet maker employed in the Department of Treasury workshops in the summer of 1880. It was passed down through his family and was donated in 1956 to the Virginia Museum of History and Culture, in Richmond.
This fac-simile has a photograph reproduction of the original, a secondary label and is signed and dated by Degges in the drawer.
His part in creating the reproductions is further documented in congressional testimony as part of a larger scandal and investigation the previous administration.
This example was apparently unknown to previous researchers of these duplicate desks. Link the VMHC's Jefferson desk
My various contacts and visit with the Virginia Museum of History and Culture have been nothing but pleasant and helpful, my sincere thanks to the staff there.
